I listened in on the Gamelan concert and I was very impressed with the very different techniques used throughout. The vocals were phenomenal and I can only imagine the practice it takes to achieve such a clear, resonant, sound. Which applies to all types of vocal performances, but I can’t find the words to describe how different sounding it was. I assume one would require an immense amount of space in their throat.
The second concert I attended was not the traditional, classical type of music. It was at the Music House here on campus and a local band performed there. The lead singer had VERY strong vocals, however she presented her voice from a standpoint of someone who was classically trained. It was very interesting to see the various types of applications to voice.
