Xunfei, Charlie & David have an immediate need for a dynamic page of jobs/opportunities available for CS majors.
To make it easy to add new items I’ve set up a wordpress blog on the college ePress site called CS Opportunities with the CS teaching faculty as Admins so that they can easily add any information they wish.
What the Webdev students need to do is to import the RSS feed (Entries RSS) into an html page that we add to the current CS web site. When we roll out the new site we can easily replicate this & import into the new site.
As an example, I used rss 2 html site to successfully pull in the feed from the CS Jobs site and display with HTML :
<title>RSS Feed from Jobs blog</title>
There are lots of services such as
/rss.bloople.net/ which do the heavy lifting. However, we really want to run the service on our own server. Here’s one approach I found through a Google search :
Convert Rss Feed XML to JSON or HTML gives the php code – this would be something to try out on the CS server.
Some other resources
- Useful RSS tutorial
- RSS Specifications site
- Everything you need to know about RSS
- Has a host of useful links to scripts that can be used.
Figure out what needs to be run in order to display the RSS feed on our CS site without having to go through a 3rd party service.
